PROFINET Seminar attracts Industrial Automation heavyweights

Factory and Process Automation expert Bernd Lieberth returned to Singapore last month following a successful two week Australian visit, highlighted by the launch of Siemen’s new Simatic S7-1500 automation platform and a PROFINET Technical Seminar.

Event organisers Profibus Australia hosted the no-charge, 2 hour Seminar titled ‘Understanding PROFINET: The leading industrial Ethernet Standard’.

A large audience from Sydney’s industrial automation community were in attendance including end-user heavyweights Sydney Water, Lion Nathan Brewery, Dematic Materials Handling plus Systems Engineers, Integrators and Vendors.

Lieberth reviewed Profinet’s growth over the last five years and presented a series of technical demonstrations on key features including Diagnostics, Wireless solutions, Safety and Investment protection. The competitive advantages and cost savings available through proxy technologies PROFIenergy, PROFIsafe and PROFIdrive were also reviewed and illustrated by examples from the European automotive industry which Profibus and Profinet dominates.

In an informative and entertaining presentation, Lieberth engaged the audience by skillfully combining technical overviews with glossy branding imagery via product video presentations.

At the conclusion, Profibus Australia Chairman Rafael Koenig interviewed Lieberth, his SE Asia Profibus counterpart, on the key points of his presentation.
